Hyundai and Lurie Children’s Hospital Team Up to Boost Child Safety at Move for Kids Event

Hyundai and Lurie Children’s Hospital enhanced child seat safety at the Move for Kids event, providing crucial education and resources to families.

Hyundai Motor America and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago hosted their third child safety seat check at this year’s Move for Kids walk and rally at Busse Woods Forest Preserve in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Event Highlights: Move for Kids Walk and Rally

Hyundai Motor America and Lurie Children’s Hospital partnered to ensure the safety of young passengers at the Move for Kids walk and rally.

The event focused on providing vital safety education and resources to patients, families, and neighbors.

Hyundai donated an additional $50,000 to support the hospital’s Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program.

This generous contribution underscores Hyundai’s commitment to safety in vehicle manufacturing and community education on child seat safety.

“Safety is our top priority for Hyundai, which includes providing safe vehicles as well as proper education of the importance of child seat safety and injury prevention measures,” said Cole Stutz, Chief Safety Officer, Hyundai Motor North America.

“Our continued partnership with Lurie Children’s represents our commitment to keeping our youngest passengers and other road users safe.”

Child Passenger Safety Technicians at Work

At the event, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) inspected car seats for proper fit, installation, expiration dates, and manufacturer recalls.

They provided essential safety recommendations to parents and caregivers, ensuring families were educated on the correct use of child safety seats. Some families even received accessible replacement seats if needed.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of car and booster seats need to be installed correctly.

Research shows that correctly installed car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.

Empowering Families Through Education

“We are grateful for Hyundai’s continued support of our work educating families about car seat safety. It is not just about preventing accidents; it is about saving lives,” said Amy Hill, Director of Unintentional Injury Prevention Programs at Lurie Children’s.

“Through this generous donation, we can empower parents and caregivers to make informed choices that ensure every child’s journey is as safe as possible.”

Catalina Zamora, who leads car seat education through the Buckle Up Program, emphasized the impact of Hyundai’s support.

“Hyundai’s generosity has enabled us to partner with community organizations to meet the increasing demand for car seat safety resources, particularly among migrant families. It is rewarding to provide the education and the equipment to families in need.”
