Speaking Spanish from her Staten Island residence, Garcia was confused, stating:

“I thought it was just blood. I did not know I put my baby in the trash until the nurse told me later.”

The incident unfolded on May 20 when Garcia, covered in blood, was discovered at Staten Island University Hospital by a police officer and cleaning staff.

Upon hearing the baby’s cries, they located the newborn boy inside the garbage can.

Records indicate that Garcia has been charged with two counts of assault, reckless endangerment, and one count of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Following the baby’s birth, he was immediately transferred to NYU Langone Hospital and is currently under the city’s Administration for Children’s Services custody.

During her bedside arraignment, an order of protection was issued against Garcia, and her next court appearance is scheduled for June 16.

Garcia’s father, Ambrosio Garcia, 41, revealed that his daughter had vehemently denied being pregnant and had brought her to the hospital the night before due to her ill health.

Garcia, who migrated to the US from Mexico approximately ten months ago, expressed her uncertainty about the current location of her infant son, saying:

“I do not know when I am going to get him back. I want him back. I want to take care of him. I want my baby back.”

Unfortunately, the baby’s father, whom Garcia met on Facebook and resided in Manhattan, is unaware of the situation as the police confiscated her phone at the hospital, preventing her from contacting him.

Nevertheless, Garcia’s father has pledged to locate the baby’s father and hold him responsible for the events.

Reflecting on her doubts about motherhood, Garcia admitted:

“I did not know if I was ready to be a mom. Then, I thought I had made an error—but now I want him here with me.”

The case remains under investigation, and authorities are working to ensure the well-being of the newborn child.
