Washington, D.C. – In a thrilling matchup, the Washington Nationals emerged victorious against the Seattle Mariners with a 7-4 win in 11 innings on Tuesday night. 

Jordan Weems showcased his exceptional skills by escaping a bases-loaded situation in the 10th inning. 

At the same time, Lane Thomas sealed the deal with a crucial two-run double in the 11th, propelling the Nationals to victory.

Weems Comes Through Under Pressure

With the game tied at 4-4 in the 10th inning, Jordan Weems took to the mound for the Nationals, facing off against Seattle’s key players. 

Recognizing the potential threat, Weems intentionally walked leadoff hitter JP Crawford, hoping to set up a double play with the automatic runner on second base. 

Despite falling behind 3-0 to Julio Rodríguez, Weems remained unfazed and managed to strike him out.

Weems then showcased his composure by retiring Ty France on a popup foul and striking out Teoscar Hernandez. 

To complete the incredible escape, he tagged out Cal Raleigh, effectively ending the threat and keeping the Mariners from scoring.

Lane Thomas Delivers the Winning Blow

As the game progressed to the 11th inning, Lane Thomas stepped up to the plate with two outs. 

He seized the opportunity and connected with a 1-0 pitch from Trevor Gott, driving the ball down the right-field line. 

The hit turned into a two-run double, bringing Michael Chavis and Ildemaro Vargas home and giving the Nationals a 6-4 lead. Luis García followed up with an RBI single, further solidifying their advantage.

Weems Shuts Down Mariners to Secure the Win

In the bottom of the 11th, Jordan Weems continued to exhibit his dominance on the mound.

He skillfully retired all opposing batters in order, closing out the game and ensuring the Nationals’ victory.

For the Nationals, Mexican player Joey Meneses went 0-5, while Venezuelan Keibert Ruiz recorded an impressive two hits in 5 at-bats, scoring once and driving in a run. 

Venezuelan Ildemaro Vargas went 1-0, crossing home plate during the game.

Dominican player Julio Rodríguez struggled on the Mariners’ side, going 0-3 at the plate. 

Teoscar Hernández, hailing from the Dominican Republic, contributed with a 1-for-4 performance, scoring one run and driving in two.

Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez also contributed with a 1-for-3 performance, including an RBI.
