500 Migrants From Cuba, Caribbean Arrive in Florida Keys, National Park Forced to Close

Approximately 500 migrants reached the Florida Keys over the weekend. These migrants are believed to be from Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean, and the complete details are yet to be revealed.

Dry Tortugas National Park, Key West, Florida, was forced to close for several days, and efforts were made to assist migrants.

In addition to the 300 migrants who arrived at the national park, another 160 migrants arrived by boat in other parts of the Keys.

Two more groups of migrants, totaling about 30 people, were found in the Middle Keys.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has described the situation as a “federal failure” leading to a “humanitarian crisis” and stated that it is assisting federal authorities with a sharp increase of Cuban refugees since Saturday.

The Border Patrol and the Coast Guard have seen a spike in migration by boat in South Florida and the Keys in almost a decade, with hundreds of interceptions in recent months.

The migrants will receive food and first aid before being transferred to federal authorities for processing.

On Christmas Eve, three busloads of migrants arrived in Washington, D.C., and were dropped off in front of the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris.
